Exam Format

- Hands-On Questions: The exam does not include hands-on lab questions. It is a computer-administered multiple-choice qualification examination.
Exam Policies
- Offline Proctoring: The exam can be taken at authorized Prometric test centers.
- Online Proctoring: Online test delivery may be available through FINRA’s approved online testing process, subject to eligibility and exam scheduling options.
- Waiting Period: Candidates who fail the exam must generally wait 30 calendar days before retaking it. After three or more failed attempts in succession within a two-year period, a 180-calendar-day waiting period applies.
- Retake Fee: Full exam fee must be paid for each retake. A new enrollment is required for another attempt.
Certification Validity and Renewal
- Validity: The Series 6 qualification remains valid while the individual maintains the appropriate FINRA registration. If registration is terminated, the qualification generally remains valid for two years.
- Renewal Options: Validity can be maintained through active registration and continuing education requirements. Eligible individuals may also maintain qualification through FINRA’s Maintaining Qualifications Program, subject to FINRA rules.

- Taxes: Country-specific VAT/GST may apply. Example: In India, 18% tax applies, making the total $118 USD ($100 + $18 tax)
Prerequisites
Candidates must be associated with and sponsored by a FINRA member firm or other applicable self-regulatory organization member firm to be eligible for the Series 6 exam.
Candidates must also pass both:
- Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam
- Series 6 Investment Company and Variable Contracts Products Representative Exam
